MSc in Lean Operations
The first ever lean thinking degree for practicing operations, production or manufacturing managers was launched in September 1999. From October 2006 a new service stream was introduced reflecting a growth in the application of lean thinking to service organisations and a rise in interest for lean oriented education and research.
Initially developed in response to a need to develop lean experts that could drive through implementation programmes in organisations and their supply chains, the course has proved highly successful and has been oversubscribed each year since its launch. One of the unique aspects of the scheme is that many of the sessions are taught in company locations, enabling a highly contextual and practical approach to learning to take place.

Course Background
The first course of its kind, the MSc in Lean Operations is a two year, part-time course for managers that focuses on the theory and practice of Lean Thinking and Lean Operations Management. The programme has two streams – manufacturing and services. Graduates from the programme will be able to manage the application of leading-edge lean thinking, tools and techniques in their operations, which can result in radical breakthroughs in operational processes and significantly improved business performance. The programme draws on the world-renowned expertise of the Lean Enterprise Research Centre, a specialist centre dedicated to helping manufacturing and service organisations achieve world class performance through the application of Lean Thinking.
The programme is designed primarily for operations managers and change agents with significant work experience. Most students on the course are funded by their employers.
