Mark Francis

Mark is a Senior Research Associate at the Centre. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Computer Studies and an MBA and PhD from Cardiff University. His research interests include product development process improvement, product lifecycle management and the role of ICT within Lean development and delivery processes. Following ten years working in the IT industry in a variety of roles spanning software development, systems implementation and application consultancy, he joined LERC in 1996. Since that time he has conducted numerous applied research projects that have involved firms such as Tesco, Bass, Unipart, BT, Sainsbury's, Whitbread (Beefeater) and ASDA. He was a founding Director of FPIU and spent one year on secondment to the CUIMRC to head the 'Process' theme of its sustainable change (SUCCESS) programme. He is currently the Principal Investigator on a project called PREMADE. This is a three year, DTI funded project in the aerospace industry that aims to produce a digital Lean manufacturing and simulation modelling tool that integrates Lean accounting principles.
